Google City Guide to Budapest
This project visualizes the scale of data Google collects about its users, centered on the 'My Timeline' feature in Google Maps. Enabled by default on Android and manually on iOS, it silently tracks locations and durations. The work takes the form of a travel guide based on five days of personal data collected in Budapest — the kind of document Google itself could generate automatically one day.
The book is structured in four chapters: raw data (timestamps, coordinates, movement), visual data (mapped and compiled) and timeline data (a readable list of visited places). The final chapter compares photos taken by Google with those captured using an analog camera.
